Install Wordpress On Localhost - XAMPP Tutorial

This video tutorial will show you how to install WordPress locally on your computer using XAMPP

There are a few reasons you might want to have WordPress installed locally on your computer. The first is for a test environment for your live website. If you want to change your your theme, add a plugin, or make some other change to your website it’s a good idea to have a local test environment so that you don’t risk breaking your live website.

A second reason is that these local sites are good for making your own website before paying money for a server. Instead you can finish your site locally and then upload it when you’ve paid for your hosting plan

Step 1 – Install XAMPP
The first thing we need to do is install XAMPP on your computer. XAMPP is a software package that contains all the various things required by WordPress like a database and web server. It is an Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP, and Perl in addition to the Apache web server

Step 2 – Enable Apache and MySQL
After installing XAMPP we need to enable Apache and MySQL in the XAMPP control panel

Step 3 – Create Database
Using PHPMyAdmin we will create a new database that WordPress will connect to so that it can store data

Step 4 – Download WordPress
Go to wordpress and download the most recent version and then copy that into a folder you’ve named in XAMPP’s htdocs folder. Edit the wp-config folder and edit in the details of your database so that WordPress can connect to it. Now we just need to visit the name of that folder at localhost and you’ll be able to go through the wordpress install process
